Carmie Walker is a passionate and experienced Health and Aged Care Director with strong business acumen. She is committed to service and operational excellence ensuring that resident satisfaction is paramount in remodelling and redesigning the resident’s care. Carmie has an excellent understanding of the complexities of government policy, process and implementation and strategic organisational and service reform. Recognized for leadership ability, negotiation skills and thrives on the challenge of establishing new processes and systems to enhance the hospital system. Her insight and driving passion, for ‘excellence in care for all’, enables her to not only develop, but lead strategic programs to take healthcare into the future.
With 30 years’ experience in health care, Carmie is a dynamic and diverse leader in clinical redesign, change management, resident flow and access, discharge planning and coordination of care. She is a known and successful change agent with highly developed influential communication and negotiation skills. Carmie has worked clinically as a Registered Nurse in England in specialty areas including the Emergency Department and ICU before immigrating to Australia where she has worked in multiple states and territories in Rehabilitation, Aged Care and Community/Outback nursing. Her roles have included Director of Innovation and Service Improvement, Manager of Quality, Finance and Risk Management. She has also been a successful as a Company Director in fields of HR and Workforce planning and provision as well as managing her own business HealthCare Solutions, which was designed to assist the elderly with Case Management and Discharge Planning. Carmie’s main interest lies in the care of our older citizens, in both the residential setting and the community. In 2000 she was a Board Member of the Aged Care Abuse Association to assist in trying to understand and manage this issue.
Carmie is highly regarded for her ability to drive outcomes, innovation and efficiency in large scale public and private health organisations, utilising her expertise at a Lean/Six sigma Practitioner. She has successful lead many organisation wide initiatives and has been a key developer and designer of tools, resources and concepts to ensure organisational reform is underpinned by sound quality, financial and risk management models.
